My students need the 15 SSYRA texts for the year as well as some seating options so they can get comfy while reading. These include a package of stools and fill for the bean bag chair.
We are an International Baccalaureate Elementary School whose mission is to cultivate in each student the desire to grow in wisdom, to nurture an open and curious mind and to serve others with a generous spirit. We have a truly international culture and diverse student population.
Our goal is to create an advanced elementary program where our students become critical and compassionate thinkers.
Students become aware of the shared humanity that binds all people together and develop respect for the variety of cultures and attitudes that adds to life’s richness.
My Project
I am requesting copies of SSYRA (Sunshine State Young Reader Award Program) for these students to provide opportunity to meet a school wide challenge of reading all fifteen throughout the school year. Oftentimes, the school Media Center only receives one or so of each of these titles, making them hard for the kids to get their hands on them. By having a class set I can keep up the momentum of the challenge within my room. My students are avid readers and we develop individual and group goals around their independent novels. Not only will they attempt the goal of reading all of these books, but we can complete literature circles and group discussions. They will be exposed to a variety of literary genres and involved in the selection of the newest SSYRA novels by voting for their favorites and suggesting their own favorite titles.
