Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work at a special education school, serving emotionally disturbed, learning disabled, autistic, and other special education-classified students. Our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Over 95% of the student body is eligible for free lunch and more than 90% receive public assistance.

My students participate in a program called PBIS, which stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.

We use this program to recognize positive behavior, rather than focus on the few negative issues that tend to crop up in any high school classroom. Part of this program involves earning certificates and prizes based upon their positive progress in school.

I am requesting squishmallows, which will be utilized as some of our "top prizes." These will be great motivation for my students to stay on a positive path, both academically and behaviorally. Additionally, they will allow my sensory-sensitive students a chance to squeeze their new stuffed toys for comfort. Thanks so much for reading our proposal and considering a donation to our PBIS program.
