My Project
My students are often sheltered in their experiences with people of different cultures and backgrounds. Helping grow future leaders with compassion, understanding, and respect is one of the most important lessons I can teach my students.
I have found that a graphic novel with rich pictures and a great story such as Squished is a wonderful way to expose my students to how someone else lives.
These books will enrich not only this year's students but all of my classes to come. I plan to do a book study with my class and encourage them to walk a day in someone else's shoes. I believe bringing enriching and entertaining books to the students is one of the best ways to expose them and therefore help them understand while also increasing their comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary.
