Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Students with autism present many incredibly wonderful attributes to making the teaching profession more exciting. With those attributes, come many challenges that hinder their

abilities and desires to want to learn.

My students are all on the Autism Spectrum, many nonverbal and with extremely high sensory needs. We incorporate sensory activities and

breaks into all daily activities to help them want and be able to interact effectively, not only in our classroom, but in special area classes, the cafeteria, and playground when interacting

with typically developing peers in the general education setting.

Through this project I hope to be able to provide a more welcoming and inviting environment for my students so that they will be able to learn effectively while also embracing their

exceptionalities and having resources available to help them learn, manage emotions, and make connections.
