Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I work with come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and use a variety of modalities to communicate such as, Voice Output Devices (VOD), picture exchange, gestures/signs, and eye gaze. These students benefit from materials that are adapted to fit their unique needs. Modifying materials helps them access their curriculum and allows them to better participate in classroom activities and lessons. My students often require more engaging and hands on activities to help motivate them and redirect them to the selected task.
My Project
Many of my student's who are on the spectrum have sensory issues; be it the fabric of their shirt to the soap in the bathroom they often have a tough time interacting with various materials and consistencies. I would love to use these items to integrate more sensory experiences into my student's day in a way that is fun and helps them work through their aversion!
I would love to use the play-doh, play foam and floof to expose my students to the different textures.
Touching paint, even washable paint can be hard for many kids. I would love to use the paint to develop some fun finger painting activities for m students.
