Since our inception, our school has been dedicated to educating the whole child by offering a rich dynamic educational program. We provide an exciting alternative to traditional schools. Our classroom is based on developmentally appropriate teaching methods that accommodate the whole child with respect to individual learning styles, developmental readiness, and rates of achievement. Multiple-age classrooms, collaborative teaching, a high level of parent participation, and community involvement greatly contribute to developing our environment into a world-class learning community.
Our focus is developing innovative programs designed to accommodate the diverse needs of all students, including those who are historically underachieving or academically disadvantaged, to challenge and engage students to master state academic content and to meet or exceed state achievement standards.
Teachers are encouraged to develop a creative environment that fosters students becoming a real part of their own learning.
My Project
Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he is grown up.” Art is a common language, the great equalizer in which all children become risk-takers. It is the springboard into reading, creative writing and even math. It is art for art’s sake. Given the opportunity, my students can learn so much from the master artists that goes far beyond the canvas.
In my classroom, art is synonymous with intrigue and magic.
It promotes self-esteem and studies have shown that children, who are encouraged to generate art, read better and achieve higher understanding in science and math. As they embrace the challenge of creating something from nothing, my students will fill their canvas with the passion they discovery within their own spirit. By having the opportunity to compare the great masters in art, my students can not only expand their world, but develop interpretation skills while learning to express their views on a wide variety of art. By having the opportunity to attempt different art styles, my students will develop their own style. I want to provide a set of computer mice for my classroom, to not only teach my students computer skills, but help them to be able to better navigate as they research art and artists. Please help me encourage the children in my classroom to discover the artists from the past and become the artists of the future.
