Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My high school biology students are passionate about protecting and caring for vulnerable animals, especially guinea pigs. Through our classroom rescue initiative where we have created a sanctuary where these gentle, social creatures, often surrendered or neglected, receive the daily care and attention they deserve.
Our students take full responsibility for feeding, grooming, cleaning habitats, and monitoring the guinea pigs’ health and behavior.
This hands on care is not only a powerful form of community service but also teaches empathy, patience, and responsibility. At the same time, it serves as a living lab for core biology topics such as mammalian anatomy, behavior, nutrition, and ecosystems. The presence of guinea pigs in our classroom transforms abstract lessons into meaningful real world learning experiences.
This unique program merges compassionate action with academic inquiry, empowering students to grow as both knowledgeable learners and service minded caretakers.
By contributing, you are directly supporting the rescue and care of classroom guinea pigs (providing food, bedding, and medical supplies) while helping to foster a culture of community service and inspire the next generation of biologists, advocates, and compassionate leaders.
