My Project
Back to square one- in the best way! I am excited to be going to kindergarten after having spent the last few years in first grade. Some things I noticed each year was a high number of students that did not know how to count to 100 and had handwriting that was difficult to read due to letter reversals and underdeveloped letter formation skills. Since I will be the first point of contact for the incoming kindergarteners, I have a plan of action to address these skills from the start!
My goal is to equip students with hands-on, engaging tools that make learning both fun and memorable!
The 100 chart Pop Its will serve as a sensory-friendly resource that supports counting, directionality, and familiarity with the use of charts as mathematical instruments. The fun nature of popping each number will increase student participation and create lasting engagement as a daily routine. This same tool will later be useful in supporting students as a visual and tactile aid during calculations.
In addition, the handwriting workbooks will provide letter formation support to students as they begin to connect symbols to meaning. The grooves take the mystery out of letter formation and reinforces muscle memory. Combined with the disappearing ink, these reusable tools allow for repeated practice, building confidence and automaticity, without wasting resources.
By integrating these tools into our daily routine, I hope to create a classroom environment where students feel supported, successful, and excited to learn!
