Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At School, we serve a diverse community of learners. Our school is home to students from pre-K to 8th grade, with 92% of our students coming from low-income families and 86% belonging to ethnic minorities. Despite the challenges they face, our students are resilient, eager to learn, and full of potential. In the 2022-2023 academic year, we've seen a student progress rate of 7/10, a testament to their hard work and dedication.

My Project:

In our 8th-grade science class, we will embark on a unit exploring the world of genetics. To make this subject more tangible and engaging, we plan to use Mr. Potato Head dolls as a hands-on learning tool.

Each team of students will receive a Mr. Potato Head doll, which they will use to learn about genes, inheritance, and variation. By swapping and mixing parts, students will simulate the process of genetic recombination, seeing firsthand how genes can combine in countless ways to create unique individuals. This interactive approach will not only make learning fun but also foster a deeper understanding of genetic principles.

Materials Needed:

We need a class set of Mr. Potato Head dolls for our students. Your generous donation will directly support this innovative approach to teaching genetics, providing our students with the resources they need to succeed.

Why Your Donation Matters:

Your support will make a real difference in our students' learning experience. By funding this project, you will not only help us bring genetics to life in our classroom but also inspire our students to explore the wonders of science. Despite the economic challenges our students face, we believe in their potential and are committed to providing them with the best education possible. Your donation will help us do just that.
