Spruce up the Library for Back to School!

My students need new bean bag chairs, a book shelf and project supplies to spruce up the library.

My Students

The library is unlike any other room in the school. Students are welcomed with bean bag chairs, soft carpets, fun magazines to read, computers to use, and of course lots and lots of books.

My students are hard-working, inquisitive, and want to succeed.

They use the library frequently and know that it's a place to come for school work and to relax. Students at this school come from very diverse backgrounds. They are racially and socio-economically diverse. There are many languages spoken here, and students of many different abilities.

My Project

The library has had the same eight beanbag chairs for four years, and they are actively used for 180 school days every year. That's 720 days of bean bag use by 550 middle school students! Some of the bean bags are tearing and although they've been repaired, I would like to replace them with nice new beanbags. Students have proposed a "take a book, leave a book" book exchange shelf for the library and they will be managing this project. The bookshelf will fit in the place that I have cleared in the room. The bookmarks, markers, origami paper, paper roll, and mod podge will be part of craft activity workshops in the library this year. Our school doesn't have an art class and students enjoy coming to the library to do book-related crafts, and help prepare library displays. The supplies will be used for these workshops and activities.

Our school library is a sanctuary for many students.

They come to take a break, find a quiet spot, express their creative side, and get support from a trusted adult. I want them to see that the space is refreshed and that they matter enough to have nice materials and activities. A safe, respectful, and fun library program builds school community and encourages students to access library resources for their academic work as well.
