My students are an amazing group of diverse kindergartners.
They attend a Title I school in North Carolina where 100% receive free lunch and breakfast.
Many of our children have limited exposure to anything outside of their neighborhoods. However, they are sponges just wanting to have the opportunity to soak up everything available to them. They are very inquisitive about the world and how things work. That is why we need to provide them with every opportunity available to help them learn about the world we live in, not just their neighborhood.
My Project
It is my desire to provide them with every opportunity available to help them love reading and enjoy learning. That is why I am requesting a sofa cover to give our reading area a face lift, pillows to make reading fun and comfortable, guided reading books, and a guided reading teacher guide to help us spruce up our literacy block. Kindergarten has become so overwhelmed with academics that we sometimes forget that these children are just that children and they need to enjoy learning. These materials will help me to provide more exciting and innovative guided reading lessons. We have a couch in our class to sit on but it is need of a face lift. The couch cover will add some color and make it more comfortable to sit on. The pillows are decorative and will give the children an area to be comfortable as they read to themselves. The more comfortable they are the easier it is for them to stay engaged in their reading. It is my hope that these materials will provide excitement and encourage a love for reading.
