My Project

Situated in the center of a food desert, my students rely heavily on corner store snacks for sustinance. Outside of one community sponsored grocery store, their neighborhood is riddled with gas stations, convenient stores, and fast food restaurants. This in turn results in unhealthy eating practices that could negatively impact their learning and health.

We want to provide students with the lifelong skills of gardening.

This garden will provide an opportunity for students to try new and healthy vegetables that they may not have come in contact with while simultaneously learning the art and skill of gardening. Through the school garden, students will learn skills related to nutrition, ecology, environmental science, hydroponics, composting, and irrigation.

The resources donated to the club will help students start and sustain our first school garden. Students will also be able to transfer their gardening skills by taking a vegetable plant home to grow with their families. All stakeholders will benefit from our school garden because the harvested vegetables will be accessible to students, staff, parents, and other community members.
