Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Cultivate change! Germinate new ideas! Help sprout the seed of our new school garden! I teach science to elementary students in this high-need, public Montessori school. Students in this low-income school will collaborate in the creation of our urban school yard garden through a Science Enrichment after-school program. Unfortunately, there are no additional funds to make this botanical dream come true.
A swimmer learns to swim in a pool. A reader learns to read with books. Imagine a student trying to learn about plants with no plants. Many of these students have never seen a garden. They need to experience the wonders of nature first hand in order to learn about the life cycles of plants and the needs of living things. Help them gain these skills and other invaluable life experience by contributing to the creation of our school garden.
In order to get this project started, we need to start small. We are asking for a small set of garden tools, including shovels, hoes, and spades, as well as a starting supply of seeds and small plants. Students will begin by starting seeds indoors, to become familiar with plant growth and care. Slowly, our planting project will grow and expand to a garden location outdoors.
Your help will ensure that my students take part in this life changing experience. You will make it possible for my students to learn essential life skills and transform their under-performing school into a beautiful place of growth.
