This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a teacher in a low-income, inner-city school region with a large, diverse population of immigrant, refugee families from a variety of Latin American countries. Our school is a Title I (schools with large concentrations of low-income students) school. My students are faced with many challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Many students in our school qualify and enter our school through the Head Start Program, which is available for children who are from families with incomes below the poverty guidelines, children from homeless families, and/or families receiving public assistance. Some of the students in my classes suffer from attention deficit disorder (ADHD), are ESL students (English as a Second Language) and/or have other types of special needs. Regardless of their challenges, though, the majority of the students are very determined and eager to succeed. In spite of their personal experiences, most of my students are enthusiastic learners who possess a thirst for knowledge.
My project supports The Allstate Kindness Project.
My project is spreading kindness at home, school, and in the community. Kindness is important in our schools more than ever. The goal for my projects is to create snack packs that will promote health and wellness for our community. They will then be given to others that are sick or in need. We are being community leaders.
Snacks are a necessity and important to help those who are sick or are in need. The different snacks and cabinet for storage will be very beneficial for this initiative. Not having a meal affects energy and livelihood. Any small snacks packs can allow for a better day. This project will help with the availability to provide a healthy snacks when they are needed.
