Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello everyone, it continues to be an exciting school year for our 4/5 self contained bridge class. My class is made of 13 students who have different disabilities and cognitive levels but regardless of their disability, my students come to school everyday smiling and ready to learn.
Their disabilities range from learning disabilities, Autism, Speech and language impairment and Downs Syndrome.
My students work hard and are growing as readers, writers and mathematicians. They continue to learn how to interact with one another and be part of the school community while not letting their disabilities stop them from being active members of the school community.
My Project
Nothing sparks a student’s interest in reading as updating the classroom library. By adding these books to my classroom library students will be excited to shop and read new books. Currently, the students have transitioned into books with limited picture supports and by having these illustration rich books will excite them and hopefully help them keep their interest in reading.
These books will also be used to support students that have not made independent reading progress but have learned to use the illustrations to make sense of their books that have substance, themes and substance giving them a chance to participate in higher level skills with their peers.
