Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a diverse, first grade, integrated, collaborative teaching (ICT) class, with a combined mixture of general and special education students at a large, high-needs, Title I school in the north Bronx. Although the majority of students come from low-income homes or from homes with limited parental school-involvement, they are enthusiastic and truly come to school everyday, ready to learn. These children see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and strive daily to make me proud.

My class of first graders are some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

Not only do several of them struggle with unstable home lives, but many cope with various disabilities such as ADHD, autism, and speech and language impairments. These kids inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.

My Project

This school year has been unlike any other in previous years, and my little scholars have truly amazed me with their resilience. With life slowly returning back to normal and some much needed consistency in place, we can start to plan some more hands on activities for them to engage in when we go outdoors.

With the weather starting to get warmer, I would like to have different types of activities for the kids to choose from when we're outside.

Bubbles are always a wonderful activity for children, and we are requesting bubble wand kits, bubble soap, and disposable aluminum containers for the kids to use. They will be so excited to have a variety of wand sizes to choose from, from shapes to sizes!

The giant topping tower is reminscent of Jenga, and will provide an opportunity for children to work together and use their brainpower to stack blocks higher and higher. The Suspend game is similar in nature as well.

Lastly, we are requesting the plain white shirts for the students so they can tie dye. This is an activity that not only bonds us as a class, but provides them with a momento that they can take with them after they've left.
