My Project

With literature, we help our students develop critical literacy, build thinking skills that enable students to consider all viewpoints, respect differences, and become more self-aware of the differences they can make in their communities. Literature opens many doors for discussion: religious differences, religious tolerance and intolerance, the differences between all citizens. That being said, if I can't get them reading, I can't get them to thinking.

These books help our students see the world through someone else’s eyes, to learn to understand other people’s circumstances and perspectives, and to empathize with them.

They learn tolerance. They open their minds to other experiences. Some books just bring them into reading; other books make it apparent why reading is so important.
