This year, our district decided to start a new program to help disrupt the suspension pathway. This program, called Changemakers, allows students from around the district to learn social skills that will help them be successful in a larger school environment. Students are referred to the program as an intensive intervention to help create change and forge a new pathway on their educational trajectory. Since we are a new program, we have been working on piecing together materials and resources as we work to 'get it right' for our kids.
Our kids are full of life and potential and it is such an honor to help them find that possibility within themselves.
In just a few short months, we have seen tremendous growth from our students, and we are excited to see even more with these resources.
My Project
Students will use the pipe cleaners and tissue paper to make tissue paper flowers for the spring. This is an important project for our kids as they will have something beautiful in their life to take home.
In addition, they can use the brain noodles and play doh as sensory items to help with their stress and anxiety from trauma they have suffered.
These items assist them with calming down and learning to make better choices.
If you want to support our school even more, we have a wish list on amazon.com. The wish list includes other sensory items for our kids with special needs. It also includes items the students can earn for good behavior in our school store.
