This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are still persisting through the challenges of learning how to be scholars after being back in school for nearly two years. Now that spring is nearly here, I would like to reward them for their hard work and get them outside into the sun at least once every few weeks. That's where the megaphone and speaker come in: our classroom is adjacent to a big soccer field. My plan is to let students who are finished with their work go outside and play soccer. The music played through the Bluetooth speaker/outdoor PA system will also help signal to students when their free time is over because none of my current speakers are loud enough to be heard from more than 15 yards away. The megaphone is important so I can communicate across the entire field if necessary. Testing season is right around the corner. Luckily for me, students will not have to test during their elective periods.
Studies show that students who get movement breaks are able to manage their stress and anxiety better.
With the two-hour time blocks available to me during our testing block, I feel it's my responsibility to make sure my middle schoolers get some exercise to help improve their performance on their tests.
The craft squares and glue guns will help us create some inventions and Rube Goldberg machines in our last unit of the school year. These are projects that my students enjoy and are really looking forward to!
I'll be using the nameplates in the fall so I can learn my students' names more quickly. I'm going to laminate each one, so we can use dry-erase markers on them, which will allow me to reuse them with each of my classes throughout the day.
