This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

The best thing about my job as a middle school teacher is getting to see the development of student personalities, needs, and learning from 6th to 8th grade. Many of the 8th graders I teach were also in my class as 6th graders. They change so much in those 3 years! I enjoy supporting them as they become thoughtful, conscientious citizens.

It's imperative that my classroom is a space where students feel safe to ask for what they need.

As pre-teens, that often means snacks and hygiene products. Things like deodorant and female hygiene items can help students going through the awkwardness of puberty, while sanitizer and snacks keep them fueled to learn. I have always purchased these myself, but I decided to give DonorsChoose a try this time. These things will keep my classroom clean and stocked for whatever situations may come up.
