This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have amazing bilingual students. They are currently working on an animal adaptation report in both English and Spanish, which is no easy feat! It requires focus and dedication.
Unfortunately, our dirty classroom has become a distraction.
The vacuum we borrow from another classroom does not work properly. And our flimsy broom is not cutting it for the messes we make. We're even on our last container of cleaning wipes!
Much of our day is spent on our large colorful rug of the United States. Students love to lie down on it with a good book or cozy up with a friend to work on math problems or Google slides for writing. It's also a great place for the whole class to gather and share their thoughts. We have an easel there where students stand and present while classmates listen and give feedback. It is where students sit as I present new spelling words of the week. Students use the same rug to face our projector where we share math strategies or read articles. However, students are turned off and distracted by our dirty rug-something a new vacuum would solve. We also make a lot of use of whiteboards at our desks. Students take notes and solve problems on them. They require a good cleaning from disinfectant wipes, especially before students eat their snack. The large whiteboard I use to present information to the whole class is very dirty at the end of each day. The erasers often only smear the marker remnants around, making it challenging for students to see what's on the board. Disinfectant wipes do the trick!
Please help us purchase items to clean our classroom so we can focus on what is important, our learning!
