Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My players are learning the game of lacrosse and how skills learned on the field translate into real life situations. I feel this game provides a great opportunity to help our student athletes grow as young men. They represent our school with pride and play the game with passion.
The lacrosse team has one of the highest GPAs in the school.
Last season we set a record for most wins in a lacrosse season and played for the District Championship. Our school is a Title I school that has a population of 94% free and reduced price lunch. Our student demographics are 75% Hispanic and 20% Black.
My Project
Our town is a small, farming community located in the rural area of Florida. Many families have limited funds available to contribute to their children’s extracurricular activities. Most of our players have never been outside of our county. We are planning our annual lacrosse trip and this year we will visit Orlando, FL to play local high school lacrosse teams. We are going to have a team meal at the hotel. On our last day we plan to visit the Universal Studios.
Our community is hard-working and family-orientated.
The majority of the families live at or below the poverty income level. This trip will allow the players to visit other parts of the state and experience things that they normally would not have the opportunity to do.
