Help me give my students books such as Moody Cow Learns Compassion, Listening with My Heart: A story of kindness and self-compassion, and Listening With My Heart.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
As a kindergarten teacher, my students will learn to see the world through the eyes of another person by incorporating activities such as role-playing, storytelling, and empathy-building exercises.
How will students learn about compassion to see the world through the eyes of another person?
Moody Cow Learns Compassion is about compassion and can help my students learn to see the world through the eyes of others by building empathy for their suffering. Grandfather, the old steer from Moody Cow Meditates, educates children to empathize with other beings. The story is both entertaining and educational for my students and their parents.
Compassion is the emotion that occurs when you notice another person's suffering and feel inspired to alleviate it. It can stem from empathy, or the ability to comprehend and feel the feelings of others, as well as a desire to help. Helping others brings compassion, joy, and an intrinsically nice feeling.
How will students learn to act to alleviate the suffering of others or help those in need? After reading the book “Moody Cow Learns Compassion" my students will understand compassion and develop the desire to act to help others. The book teaches my students that when they see someone suffering, they should feel it in their hearts and do something to help. Some define compassion as caring about others, treating them with kindness, and desiring to help those in need. Compassion for a six-year-old may take the form of giving a hug, crafting a card or saying something nice to a friend who is unhappy or disturbed.
I will measure their success through their actions and improved relationships with others. I will use feedback from other students that my students are engaged with to see the impact of their actions toward alleviating suffering in others.
