My school receives Title I funding, which means we are trying to bridge the gap between low-income students and other students. Our school district is switching to a knowledge-based reading program. Knowledge-based reading programs can be incredibly effective in not only improving literacy skills, but also broadening the horizons of children from low-income families. Access to quality education and resources is crucial for breaking the cycle of poverty, and programs like this can make a real difference.
By donating a book to our classroom library, you will be giving a child the opportunity to learn about a new and exciting topic.
This project will enable my first grade students to meet literacy and social studies standards. They will be so thrilled to read and learn about the earth and space, with topics on the solar system, fossils, and dinosaurs. They will also learn about U.S. history and other cultures by reading fables and fairy tales from other lands. Students will be introduced to the ancient civiliazations of Egypt and Mesopotamia, as well as the Inca, Aztec, and Maya. We will also learn about animals and their various habitats.
The books that were chosen will allow my class to have experiences and learn about topics that may be brand new to them.
