My Students

As a school counselor in an elementary school, I have the unique job of not only working with our three hundred and sixty students as a counselor, but also teaching classroom guidance lessons to each class in grades Pre-k through six. That means every day a student makes me smile and feel like what I'm doing is worthwhile. They make me pictures, give me hugs, ask for help and bring life to a building that went from being a school to being a community.

From the teachers that go above and beyond in their work of helping learners, to the students who come each day knowing that have a world of cheerleaders around them, rooting for their success, my school makes every life better.

My Project

This project is for students in the sixth grade class at Harrison Elementary School and would be implemented through the guidance curriculum time. The money raised would be used to purchase a class set of the book, "Fish in a Tree" by Lynda Mullaly Hunt.

Stories bring ideas to life and nothing hits more home to adolescents than the need to belong.

The students will read the book as a class and complete various interactive lessons on kindness, friendship, diversity and self-confidence. It's a book that can truly make a difference in how the students treat each other everyday.
