This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In a fast-paced world, it's easy to overlook the quiet heroes among us—the seniors who have lived rich lives and the veterans who have bravely served our country. Our project, "Spreading Joy: Care Packages for Seniors and Veterans," is our way of saying "thank you" and brightening their days with small gestures of kindness.

As an educator, I've seen the transformative power of compassion firsthand and that's why I'm thrilled to introduce this initiative to my freshman students -It's not just about assembling care packages; it's about instilling values of empathy and service that will shape them into compassionate individuals.

Imagine being a senior in a care facility, feeling a bit lonely or forgotten. Then, a care package arrives, filled with handwritten notes from our students. These messages of love and encouragement have the power to lift spirits and bring smiles to faces. Alongside these heartfelt notes are items carefully chosen to bring comfort and joy—cozy socks, puzzle booklets, chocolates, and other treats that remind them they're not alone.

But it's more than just the items inside the package; it's the connection and companionship they represent. By including personalized items like men's care products and notepads, we show that we see them as individuals, with unique needs and interests.

Success in this project won't be measured by numbers; it will be seen in the smiles and gratitude of the seniors we reach. Our students will learn that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone's day.
