My Students
Our school has a long history embedded into the community we serve. Students are excited to attend school where many of their parents and even grandparents went before them. I have an exciting opportunity to start a STEAM Resource program for the first time! When you walk into my classroom you won't see students sitting in desks diligently taking notes, instead you'll see students brainstorming ideas, drawing images, building models, testing their solution, and more!
My students are spunky, inquisitive, and hardworking.
"I never knew school could be this fun!" a student shouted to a group member as they were working on a STEAM project. It is moments like these that push me to ensure that my students always have opportunities for hands-on, real-life learning experiences. It is wonderful donors, like yourself, that can help me to provide these experiences to our youngest learners!
My Project
My students are thrilled to have the opportunity to begin learning how to bring coding to life off of a computer screen. In spring 2018, students will participate in a STEAM competition. We will be holding practices before school to prepare for this event. I want to be able to provide these students with more opportunities to understand how coding is applicable in the real-world. Hour of Code has led to great discussions about how often coding is used in our society today. However, we're currently limited by the technology resources we have.
Receiving five Ozobots will allow students to be able to work in small groups to not only practice their coding skills, but also continue practicing their communication skills.
Sharing and working as a team is a skill we're constantly working on. Children can struggle understanding how to compromise, but the Ozobots will allow them a different avenue to discover just how to do this. This will help them exponentially in our competition, which will consist of timed events. I cannot wait to see how they grow as engineers, programmers, and teammates!
