Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our 6th grade students collectively have a diverse background. We constantly engage in deep discussions about current and historical events and how different points of view should be heard and critically examined.
68% of students at our school qualify for free & reduced lunch and 40% of them are English Language Learners which gives our classrooms many perspectives.
I want to give each one of them opportunities to express their opinions in safe, creative ways that they may not normally get .
My Project
Students will be able to take an old table, refurbish it, and redo it while putting their own personalities into the design and decoration. They will also create a wall mural piece celebrating diversity and school spirit.
These materials will give students the SAFEST way to create a classroom and school art project from start to finish.
Learning about safety and social and community responsibility with these art projects will give them a safe setting and the opportunity to create in styles they may not commonly try.
Having students use these materials will give them more chances to see art from a different perspective than what might be considered "normal."
