Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. While some find it relatively easy to share their original writing, others struggle to find their voice - both on the page and in front of an audience. Given the circumstances of COVID, our fledgling creative writing and oral arts programs at our school took a hit. We collaborate with Gemini Ink and writers from throughout San Antonio to boost our students' self-expression.

By creating a vibe and a culture around creative writing and oral expression, students will continue to emerge from their shells and seek out other creatives like themselves.

I'd like to get our Literary Journals, Creative Collaboration Spaces and Open Mic Night back up and running in 2022-23. To do that, I'll need a little technology, like a whiteboard and a digital projector, and a lot of good old fashioned paper and pens.

To make our creative moments more visible, more dynamic, and more present in our community of learners, I want to move announcements about upcoming events and submission deadlines onto a digital reader and a consistent flow of new student writing onto bulletin boards outside my classroom.
