My Students

My first-grade students are part of a classroom that celebrates all of their special needs, gifts, and talents. As a class, they come together from many different cultures, languages, and abilities. They all work hard and love to be challenged. However, sometimes they need help meeting these challenges.

Every child can succeed; sometimes they just need different tools to help them on their journey!

My classroom is a happy place where all students believe that they are able to succeed and that they are supported both in and out of school. School is a place where we work hard and persevere through challenges. We work in large groups, small groups, partnerships and individually throughout the day.

My Project

My students are beginning to learn about their emotions and how to express them. Being away from their families for the first time in a long time due to coming out of quarantine and remote learning can be a difficult transition. The resources of books about emotions and sensory tools will help me be able to effectively teach about emotions and how to deal with them.

In order to better support my students' emotional wellbeing and mental health, I need resources to teach them social and emotional skills.

The Little Spot books and educator guide will give me the tools to explicitly teach my young students about the different emotions that we have and how to recognize them. I will be able to use the materials as a guide to teach coping strategies for when their emotions get big and overwhelming. It will be helpful to have common language for my students. The books will be a fantastic resource for my students and I. When my students are feeling stressed, I would also like sensory tools to help them cope with their feelings. I would like to create a safe space in my classroom for students to use these sensory tools and take a break when they need it.
