This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager, active, curious, and imaginative hands on learners. My students are engaged daily in a rigorous, integrated academic curriculum. My students live in a high poverty, metropolitan city and attend a Title 1 school. Our inner city school lacks the funding to access supplemental learning materials.

My students show up to class daily and work diligently to overcome the many challenges they face living in the inner city.

My students enjoy working cooperatively and display great creativity. Parents continually seek the best possible educational opportunities for their child. Additionally, I believe children benefit from experiences that include discovery, exploration, awakening curiosity, collaboration, sportsmanship, and an appreciation of good health and physical fitness.

My Project

Our school district does not have funding to support team sports at the elementary school level. With the generous help of Dick's Sporting Goods, I would like to begin an after school soccer club. Soccer is a universally popular sport and the favorite sport for my students to watch and play. In the soccer club students in grades, 3-6 will learn soccer skills through practice drills, which will help them gain greater self-awareness.

Research shows students who play team sports are more apt to stronger academic achievement.

The soccer club will help kids learn the importance of time management and discipline. Most kids have too much screen time and not enough hands-on activity. The soccer sports team will use the soccer balls, electric ball air pump, ball storage mesh bag and goalie nets to condition students to regular exercise, which will help boost immunity and contribute to their overall physical health.

In the soccer club, I expect students through playing in teams easily identified by using the scrimmage vests to build friendships with other children and their coaches, which will expand their social skills. Participating in team sports in the soccer club will give students the opportunity to gain an understanding of both winning and losing, as well as recognize the value of every teammates’ abilities in contributing toward a shared goal.

Another goal of the soccer club is to encourage family involvement. Moms, dads, and siblings can practice plays, attend games and cheer each other on, providing a bonding opportunity for the whole family.
