Ninety percent of the students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch. Sixty percent of the students are English as a Second Language students. Some of the students are homeless. There are a lot of special needs students at my school.
The neighborhood that the school is located in was hit by a tornado a few years ago.
Some of the students live with grandparents or in single-parent homes. A lot of the parents are unemployed due to the recession and the economy.
My Project
The three Wilson soccer balls, three Wilson junior NFL footballs, and three Spalding basketballs will help ensure the students have access to all of the benefits of sports participation. The students will be able to make goals with the soccer balls. The footballs will allow the students to make touchdowns. Free throws will be made with the basketballs. The balls will be used to play team sports for the students. Sports teams make people better and teach life lessons that extend well beyond the playing field. Research shows that student-athletes are absent from school 50% less often, have an 11% higher graduation rate and are four times more likely to attend college.
The three Wilson soccer balls, three Wilson junior NFL footballs, and three Spalding basketballs will make a lasting impact in the community by supporting programs that inspire and enable sports participation.
The students need the equipment to play team sports.
