This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am currently teaching students with learning and behavior difficulties in special education in a lower socioeconomic area. The school is located in Southern California. This classroom is 6th through 8th grade and is one where our students have many needs. The students have severe issues that require a large amount of support. The students are currently back in the classroom full time during the pandemic.

At the STEP program, we encourage sharing, cooperative grouping, and social interactions.

The combination provides a strong sense of school community where teachers know all of the children as well as teaching students how to be a part of a school community appropriately.

My Project

This is a project that focuses on having a fun recess and Physical Education period.My students desperately need new equipment to play outside. The balls we have are just not holding air anymore.

I asked for a lot of balls to make sure that each student can have one that is assigned to them.

Covid rules make Physical Education rough. If each child has their own it is easier to follow protocols. I also asked for kites that I can have them draw and create art. The other items are a ball dart board that we will use as a fun rain or cold day activity. There are also soccer balls and throwing toys added in as well.

This is a grant that resupplies our classes with needed materials. It reinvigorates PE in a time when kids need to play and become more active.
