FULLY FUNDED! Ms. W.'s classroom raised $380
This project is fully funded
I am the Lunch recess teacher at a Pre-K to 8 Elementary/Middle school in Queens, New York. Our school is mostly composed of free lunch students making us a Title 1 school. We have 40 pre-kindergarten thru eighth grade classes that I see daily in our lunchroom. Our PE program has sufficient equipment for the things that are taught, but with the limited time with students, most of the skills learned are not practiced outside of gym class.
I have inquired several times this year to the PE teachers about kids that have nothing to do outside except chase each other and most of the time play games that are not appropriate for school (tackle football, dodgeball, and just plain throwing and kicking things). What I am looking to do is work with the classroom teachers and the PE teachers in getting them equipment that all the students in their classrooms can use during the daily lunch recess period. Most of the classrooms have different kinds of balls that have been used for several years. Most of them have seen better days.
I am looking for a few of each of the basics: Volleyball, basketball, football, and playground ball (8.5", bowling set and nerf balls. These items will be used daily by each classroom during the recess period. With all of the talk about this generation being "out of shape" and "overweight", these item would help decrease the statistics and increase the fitness level of our students.
There are 889 students at our school that would benefit from these items. The classroom teachers and recess teachers, and the PE teachers, will all use the equipment to decrease conflict on the playground, increase teamwork activities, and promote better fitness in our school.
