My Students

My school is a Title I school where students are culturally diverse. About 80% of the students commute from an outlying area of 112 square miles to the campus. School data shows that the percentage of students who receive free and reduced priced meals continues to increase each year. Due to the type of community we have, our school is eligible for federal funding for free lunch and transportation this academic year. Last year, our resiliency and sense of community were tested during the Kilauea volcano eruption and lava flow.

Despite the various environmetal, economic and social challenges my students are exposed to, they epitomize the love for learning STEM related activities, and they are willing to get out of their comfort zones for the sake of learning new technology and participate in service learning projects.

They activily participates in various school activities such athletics, Upperbound, HOSA, Junior Achievement, AVID, Girls Who Code, Student Helping Student, FFA, Student Body Government, Robotics and Cyberpatriot. As their club adviser, their enthusiasm and active engagement invigorate me.

My Project

The STEM Club has the opportunity to impact many students in such a positive manner but we need your help. With your support, we can spark the minds of this generation to pursue their passions in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Our club will be attending the Hawaii STEM Conference on May 1-2, 2019 at Hawaii Convention Center.

The purpose of the trip is to provide them the opportunity to learn from the different participating schools, to experience the excitement of a regional technology conference, to meet experts on various fields, to participates on various breakout sessions, and most importantly to showcase their creativity and technical skills on various competitions such as GIS Story Maps, T-Shirt design, Game Design, Photography, CAD, videography, etc.

Eighteen of our enthusiastic club members are strongly working toward sharing their knowledge with others and learning new skills that are offered at this empowering STEM conference, however our club members come from households that are unable to fund hotel accomodation and registration fee. Our school will fund for substitute teachers for six days (3 teacher chaperones) and some expenses. We conducted fund raising activities to help augment our airfare and other expenses but fund is still not enough. This is the why we are asking for your generous support to allow these young ambitious students take the next step in following their dreams in STEM fields of work and study. Your donation will have a lasting impact as they venture into college and career preparedness and taking accountability of their learning.

Your donation to this project will also help them teach back to STEMwork students and create service learning projects for the benefit of our community. Therefore, your generosity will make a positive impact in their quest for downloading knowledge and upoading service.
