This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a group of 18 students who walk into my classroom motivated and eager to learn! I teach in a Title I school in North Carolina. The students receive free breakfast, snack, and lunch each day. Many of my students come to third grade reading below grade level due to English being their second language or home/family issues that are beyond my control; however, that does not stop them from enjoying the relevant lessons that they endure each day they are in school. They crave and want to learn about the world around them. It's a joy to teach them each and every day!

My Project

The daily math and reading daily journals that I requested will help my students in a variety of ways. The journals will be used to spiral concepts. Spiraling concepts is an effective approach to teaching standards when time is so limited. It will give my students multiple opportunities to review, apply strategies, and become successful. The spiraling method will build confidence as they build continuous strategies. The journals will also be an informal assessment tool for me. This will allow me to differentiate instruction for students who need extra practice. The daily journals will also increase parental involvement. My parents will be aware of what is being taught, what is being reviewed, and what needs to be taught.
