Our school, a public charter school in Youngstown, Ohio serves students in grades K-8. We provide rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school, in college, and in life. We provide academic opportunities many other schools cannot offer, such as the Concept Young Scholars Program, the opportunity to take Spanish or Turkish in middle school, and after school programs such as basketball, Choir, tutoring, and clubs.
Located in an inner-city neighborhood, a majority of students are low-income.
All students receive free breakfasts and free lunches. Despite this, they are motivated to learn.
My Project
In seventh grade math, we cover a lot of topics during the course of one school year. There is so much to cover each day, but without revisiting topics during the year, students have a tendency to remember topics for the quiz; and then sweep them from their mind. My goal during the next school year is to spiral back to previously taught topics as we go through the school year. I want to do this by assigning homework in weekly chunks that reviews previously learned topics. In addition, I want to push students towards mastery of each topic we cover. While I don't expect mastery in the initial go-around of the topic, I want to have my students continue to pursue it through the course of the year. I would like to purchase the following items with the gift card:
* Spiral Review Homework / Quizzes
* Math Games to use during Math Lab time
* Digital Activities to review concepts during Math Lab time
