My Students
My Junior CSI students come from the local community and rural farms. Approximately 65% of the kids are on free and reduced-price programs. My students are a blend of different cultures and family backgrounds with about 65% of my 485 students being girls. My 6th graders are participating in a 9 week sampler CSI curriculum. My 7th and 8th graders are spending an entire semester learning crime scene investigation. New this year, I am also able to offer an advanced level semester course for 7th graders who successful completed the 6th grade program last year. All of my students selected this elective course and want to take the program. My PLTW program was just nationally recognized as a Distinguished PLTW school, too. We are servicing 58% of our school population with STEM learning.
My Project
The centrifuge will provide my students the opportunity to perform real world science experiments with DNA and blood as they assume the role of a lab technician. My main goal of my Medical Investigations class is to help student explore science in an active career role.
From coloring brain hats to writing medical reports, my medical detectives are busy active learners.
Our old pencil sharpener has been used so much by my 485 students, it just burnt out. We have a great classroom set of headphones that have lasted us 2 years and recently 2 headphones started to have issues with sound so we want to replace them.
These two items will help us survive to the end of the year and start off learning right in August when we return.
