The students I teach are taught Color Guard, which is a performing arts ensemble that brings the music to life for those who are unable to hear the music being played by their bandmates. They create a visual interpretation of the music through performance. This allows them to get into the character they are trying to personify. The proper technique used with the equipment they utilize is combined with body movement through dance choreography. Our students are very dedicated to learning and have a passion for Color Guard.
Teaching a performing arts unit such as Color Guard is a challenge. Especially without the necessary rifle equipment needed to train them on.
With the lack of exposure to this element of Color Guard equipment, the students in my classroom will be excluded from opportunities at the collegiate level and auditioning in Drum Corps.
Making this equipment available to our students for years to come will allow them to be able to excel in their performing arts and academic careers.
Funding our project would give these students the same advantage as their peers in other school districts and prepare them for the next level of performance after high school as well as allowing them to be able to compete in a winter guard unit that incorporates all three pieces of equipment in a color guard ensemble. This is the last piece of equipment they do not have.
