My Project

In our kindergarten through 2nd grade autistic support class, we prioritize creating an environment that caters to the unique sensory needs of our students. The introduction of a spin board and seated spin chair is a significant step towards promoting sensory integration and ultimately improving focus and learning outcomes. These tools provide our students with a dynamic and interactive way to regulate their sensory experiences, which is crucial for their ability to engage and participate in classroom activities effectively.

The spin board offers a versatile platform for sensory exploration and modulation.

By spinning on the board, students engage their vestibular system, which helps them develop a sense of balance and spatial awareness. This sensory input is especially beneficial for autistic learners, as it can help regulate their arousal levels and promote a state of calm and alertness conducive to learning. Additionally, the spin board provides an outlet for excess energy, allowing students to release tension and refocus their attention on academic tasks.

Complementing the spin board, the seated spin chair offers a more focused and controlled sensory experience. With its adjustable speed and direction settings, the chair allows students to tailor their sensory input to their individual needs and preferences. Using the chair during seated activities such as listening to music or group discussions enables students to engage in proprioceptive and vestibular input simultaneously, which has been shown to enhance attention and concentration. By integrating these tools into our classroom routine, we aim to expand our sensory-friendly learning environment where all students can thrive academically and socially.
