My Students
COVID was tough. So many opportunities to engage students in school were lost this past year. As a 4th grade teacher in a school with many disadvantaged students, I want to be able to help them rejuvenate their love of learning, to be challenged, and to work with others.
I believe all students have untapped potential and undiscovered hidden talents.
I want to provide opportunities in a variety of ways to support and nurture their growth not only as students, but as our future engineers, teachers, doctors, and leaders of the world.
My Project
I want to provide my students with new opportunities to explore and enjoy learning, thinking critically, and to practice and support their math skills with the new Lego Spike Prime sets! I remember when I was in school and we had the computer program Turtle, as one of the things that really made me enthusiastic about school and learning about programming. Just seeing what I program happen on the screen with my turtle flying across the screen based from the commands I was typing was and is still a very positive and memorable experience.
As a classroom teacher and one of the school's robotics coaches, I want to be able to give my robotics teams an opportunity, as well as my regular classroom students the chance to use the new robots to explore programming, building, and playing with the Spike Prime robot!
I have seen over the course of the past 8 years how engaging, challenging, and exciting it is for the students to be able to build, program, and see their work in action, as well as how it really helps to support their growth as critical thinkers.
