Mrs. Coffey from Baltimore MD is requesting educational kits & games through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a few new tools like dry erase boards and magnetic letters to keep learning to read and write, and a large fiery red classroom timer to keep us on schedule.

Our school is a free public charter school in Baltimore City. We serve over 800 student’s k-4th grade. Over 80% of our students are eligible for free lunch. Our students live in an under resourced community where the effects of poverty are felt every day. Exposure to violence and traumatic stress impact our families at unprecedented rates. Even with all of these obstacles our students come to school each day filled with light and hope.
We believe a child’s zip code should not determine their destiny.
We do not let those challenges curtail us from our mission to prepare all students to go to and through college. Starting in kindergarten each classroom is given a college name, students start to build knowledge and pride about the concepts of higher education. Education empowers our students to make informed choices for their lives. As Nelson Mandela says, "education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world." We believe that the students we serve each day will in return share their gifts and talents to uplift others.
My kindergarten students have been working hard all year to become better readers and writers! We need to add some new engaging tools to our classroom to keep the kiddos happily learning. We also needs a large magnetic timer to keep us on schedule as we rotate to our reading stations.
Paper and pencil is alright, but colorful dry erase boards and magnetic letters are just more exciting to work with.
My students need and deserve the best tools available for their success. Kindergarten students love to learn but like all of us, they need variety. Let's spice up our kiddos lives with some new learning tools for reading and writing.
