Spheros My Heroes!

My students need eight Sphero Spark+ Robots. This would allow a class to work in groups of 2-3 per student. We also need storage cases to keep Spheros in so they stay protected.

My Students

We are a K-5 building consisting approximately 360 students in Sycamore, IL. We are a Title I school with a mix of students who come from various ethnic and social backgrounds. Students at our school have a passion for learning and love hands-on activities. They enjoy using technology in their learning. Students use google classroom, SMARTboards, Chromebooks, and google slides throughout the year for math and writing.

Our school believes it is essential to prepare students with opportunities for learning that will transcend beyond the classroom and prepare them for the future.

For example, our school started an after-school television broadcasting club designed for fourth and fifth-grade students. In this club, students learn to create stories that highlight our district and community and at the same time teach students about collaboration and using technology. Students operate professional camcorders, sound equipment, and are working on computers using professional software to edit video.

However, one thing that is missing in our school is more STEM-related activities and lessons. Spark+ would allow students to collaborate and learn how to code by engaging them in collaborative ways to demonstrate creativity, communication, and develop critical thinking.

My Project

Sphero Spark + will allow our students to explore and use critical thinking by coding. Spheros will be used in class to learn javascript, geometry, and learn about force and motion. For example, Students will use Spark + in math class and create incline planes. They will also learn about angle measurements. They will find what type of angles allows the Sphero to travel the greatest distance.

My students need Sphero Spark+ to help them create and apply critical thinking in collaborative groups.

They will learn how to work as a team and how to listen to others by taking and giving ideas. Spheros allow for problem-based learning to come naturally. Spheros will help students apply STEM-based activities that will inspire students learning and help them excel in the classroom.
