My Students

I am a 3rd grade teacher in a low-income/high poverty elementary school where 50% of students, and their families, are living below the poverty line. Due to their socioeconomic status, families are receiving free or reduced-price breakfast/lunch at school daily. My students face many life challenges at a young age, which may include transiency, single family homes, incarcerated parents, neglect, abuse, as well as many more. In addition, a portion of our population is English language learners. It is my desire to be the structure and/or the constant in their young, chaotic lives.

Despite their circumstances, each child brings an innocence and a joy into the classroom that motivates and inspires me.

The students love to learn, read, and write, in spite of their past and current situations. I love the challenge of reaching all of my students, and I am dedicated to finding the best tools, resources, and materials in order to create informed citizens and life-long learners.

My Project

My students love using technology to help them learn. Through this project, I will be able to use the Sphero Bolt Robot to help my students discover how to use coding skills in new ways.

Learning coding skills can help boost a student's creativity, encourage focus, enhance organizational skills and prepare students for the job market of tomorrow.

Through the use of the Sphero coding app, my students will be able to practice their critical thinking skills and coding abilities independently during student work time. We can also use them as a whole class to build teamwork skills and enhance our reading and math lessons. My students absolutely love doing STEM projects in class. The Sphero robot would be a perfect addition to our classroom and would open new possibilities for projects my students and I could explore together.
