My Project
Eddy bucks in my classroom are a hot item. I pay students for great works including work at home, extra effort, acts of kindness that go above and beyond, great well-thought out answers, classroom help, etc. Additionally, I don't have to assign homework because students practice (multiplication facts, spelling words, chapter book reading minutes) by their own will to get Eddy bucks.
The erasers, stickers, games, and trinkets are reminders that hard work is important and has value!
Now while there needs to be a greater intrinsic motivation to work hard, these prizes help to build that motivation and remind students that hard work does not go unnoticed.
Students get paid Eddy bucks for extra effort. Now while they want to spend their bucks for prizes, this classroom system also creates situations where students must decide to spend their bucks or save them. They make decisions and practice restraint. Furthermore, through this classroom reward system, I have also had the pleasure to observe situations where bucks are shared and combined. It also supports math skills such as addition and subtraction, making change, division, price per piece, etc.
