When the supplies first arrived, the students could not wait to open the boxes. Together, we opened the boxes and looked at the colorful and enticing containers of counters. I allowed them time to explore and play with them which created opportunities for shared play and conversation. \r\nWhen we were able to use them for math class, students wrote multiplication stories that were based on equal groups of fruit, sets of families, and bunches of aliens. The big idea of multiplication was demonstrated because their hands were making the equal groups instead of simply imagining them. Furthermore, great care was taken to put everything back into the correct containers because they wanted to ensure that our new supplies were secure and ready for our next lesson. They took their role as reading models seriously and showed great patience, encouragement, and leadership. The Kindergarten students were highly engaged, asked questions about the stories, and eagerly participated in discussions, which helped strengthen their listening and early reading skills.\r\n\r\nAfter reading together, the students worked collaboratively to create a Christmas tree craft. This activity reinforced fine motor skills for the Kindergarten students and allowed the older students to support, guide, and problem-solve alongside their buddies. The shared craft time helped build connections and made the experience joyful and memorable for everyone involved.\r\n\r\nThis project went beyond academics by fostering a sense of community, responsibility, and confidence. Older students felt proud to mentor younger learners, and the Kindergarten students gained confidence interacting with older peers. I am able to broadcast the songs louder so more kids are singing and learning. I use the speaker for calming sounds during afterschool tutoring when kids are trying to keep going for that extra hour. This grant has allowed me to expand my Eddy buck program to all of my classes which in turn is resulting in amazing outcomes.\r\nStudents do homework without being assigned anything specific. They practice math skills just to earn Eddy bucks for shopping. They read and talk about books at home. Students raise their hands in class when they see Eddy bucks in my pocket. They write neatly and help each other. Their group conversations stay on track because they know Eddy bucks are possible. The power of an Eddy buck motivates students to do amazing things.\r\nNow while, I am flooding the market with Eddy bucks, I will move to making it more challenging to earn Eddy bucks. I want students to rise to a higher standard.
