My first grade class is full of eager learners! They come to me only beginning to use basic phonics skills and by the end of the year most are reading and comprehending like super stars!
Our Title 1 school is very small and it is the only elementary school in our closely knit community.
At this age, they are still excited about learning and eager to read more challenging books. They strive to be R.E.A.L. on a daily basis: respectful, engaged, accountable, leaders.
I actually attended elementary school in the same building where I am now a teacher. Although many of my students come from low-income families, they continue to put forth their best effort.
In my first grade classroom, students rotate through 5 reading stations each day. The stations are computers, listen to reading, word work, writing, and read to self. As students are engaged in their station work, I'm able to differentiate my instruction and work with a small group of students or an individual student based on certain needs.
The magnetic dry erase easels and magnetic letters will make our word work station much more fun and engaging!
Students will have an individual easel for practicing sight words and spelling words with the magnetic letters as they "SPELL it, STICK it, WRITE it, then READ it."
