My Project

I am often touched by the level of care and kindness with which all my students help each other in our quest to learn. Now, even in my 20th year as an educator, my students never cease to amaze me with their persistence and grit in learning new content, as well as their inquisitiveness, creativity, and eagerness to learn new things.

In our classroom, we make sure to write everyday.

In addition to teaching the mechanics and strategies of writing, I believe it's important to teach the craft of writing. That's where the inspiration for creative, written expression often starts, by sharing the artistry and beauty of writing, whether it's through lessons in word choice, voice, tone, or different forms of poetry. Currently, my class is very much engaged in writing our own poems, particularly ones in which we practice the use of similes and metaphors. My students are proud of their poems, proudly sharing them with the class during our Author's Chair time at the end of our writer's workshop.

I am requesting a Fellowes book binding machine, covers, and plastic book binding combs to create unique, artistic, polished-looking books that would truly showcase student writing. How wonderful it would be to make whole-class anthologies of short stories and poems, as well as self-published books written by each student! The book binding machine will also be an essential for creating workbooks for phonics practice or math puzzles that would be tailored to students' abilities and interests.
