Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have three levels of baseball at our school: freshman, jv, and varsity. Our athletes train all year around and are as diverse as our school population. We are over 50% Hispanic, with more than 50% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch because the live below or at the poverty line. We have 12 different languages spoken at our school including Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Ukranian, Turkish, Egyptian, Arabic, Farsi, Indian, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. Our baseball teams are a hard working group of young men who strive to achieve both academically and athletically.
My Project
The varsity baseball team needs a few supplies for practice and for games. First, we need a good base running helmet for our team members to put on after they have made it to first base.
Next, we need a set of stopwatches so we can time our team members during their sprints; it is incredibly important that we increase our speed to first base and these stop watches will allow multiple coaches to be working with different team members at different times.
Lastly, we need a good quality bag to carry our equipment to the game. This black duffel is large enough to hold all of our bats and is of good sturdy construction. It is important that we are able to be organized both on and off the field.
