At FPES, most of my students come from an impoverished background, and are rarely exposed to outside resources, except by the way of the school system. At FPES, we act as a "family" and take the sole purpose in not only educating our students, but get involved in how their behaviors, their extra curricular activities, and invest in their future. Everyday, we see students who have left FPES get off the bus, and we still ask them how their day was and is there anything we can do for them.
I feel that when a student receives an education at FPES, we educate the whole child.
We reach them on a different level than what one would in a larger setting. Everyone knows everyone in the whole school. It doesn't matter what grade they are in, they know each other. We have several activities in which the older ones can contribute to the younger one's education and guide them to grow.
My students are with me every day. I am the only teacher that teaches everyone in the school, meaning that I know them all better than any of the classroom teachers.
I believe that the Speed Stacks system would be a great benefit for so many of our children who need to work on the skill of hand and eye coordination. Several of our children wear glasses or corrective lenses, and this would be a good fit as an activity that many would be able to excel in. We have about 3 stacks that are short a few each, and I would love for my students to experience a wonder. It has been known that hand eye coordination skills can improve so much, and this is where I want to start!!
